Riverwalk

Amesbury’s Riverwalk is a 1.6 mile walking and cycling path along the abandoned rail line that  once ran from Amesbury to Salisbury. The west end of the trail is located in the Lower Millyard behind the small restored train station. The east end now terminates behind the Stop & Shop plaza on Macy St.

A key issue to be addressed will be the connection of the Riverwalk to the evolving trail networks: the local Coastal Trails Network, the Border to Boston Trail, and the East Coast Greenway, running from the Canadian Border to Key West.  Connection will be a particular problem for Amesbury, because sections of the original railroad right of way are no longer available.  Other local considerations include connecting the Riverwalk to Market Street and securing the best route of access to a new trail to be built across the Whittier Bridge replacement.
