Josia Bartlett Statue
This memorial marks the birthplace of Josiah Bartlett, Amesbury’s most famous native son, in 1729 near present-day 276 Main Street. He began the study of medicine at the age of 16 under Dr. Ordway of Amesbury. He started his medical practice in 1760 in Kingston, New Hampshire. He was one of the first signers of the Declaration of Independence and eventually became the first governor of New Hampshire.
